3/7/2020 - Daily Task - Making ice-lollies - Make some ice-lollies together. Use your favourite drink and place in a mould for freezing. If you don't have ice-lolly moulds then you could use a plastic cup, silicone cupcake case or a clean, empty yoghurt pot. If your prefer why not make some flavoured ice-cubes. Freeze them overnight for a refreshing treat tomorrow. 2/7/2020 - Daily Task (older children) - Weaving a Sun - Using a paper plate or a circle cut out of cardboard, encourage your child to make snips using scissors around the edge of the circle. When they have done this use wool, ribbon or something similar (yellow or orange coloured if possible) to weave across the circle to make a sun. See the photos of ideas of how to do this. We would love to see photos of children's work on Tapestry.

2/7/2020 - Daily Task (nurture children) - Chalk Squiggles - Draw some chalk squiggles, wavy lines and patterns on pavement/driveway. Encourage your child to follow the lines by walking along them or use a paintbrush and water to paint over them.

1/7/2020 - Daily Task (older children) - Initial sounds sorting - Place a selection of objects/pictures beginning with three different letter sounds on the floor e.g. s - spoon, sugar, scissors etc. p - pin, pot, pen, pencil etc. t - toothbrush, tin, tube etc. Write the three letters on separate pieces of paper and place them around the objects. Encourage your child to pick up an object/picture, say the sound it begins with and place it next to the correct letter.


1/7/2020 - Daily Task (nurture children) - Shape Puzzles - Draw shapes in different colours across lolly sticks or strips of cardboard. Use three lolly sticks or cardboard strips for each shape - see the photos for how they should look. Encourage your child to match the sticks to make the shapes and then name the shapes together.

1/7/2020 - Non-Fiction Book - Each week the older children usually have a non-fiction focus book on Wednesday/Thursday. This week our book is 'Ocean Life' by Jill McDonald. 29/6/2020 - Transition Activity - Each week we are suggesting an activity for our school leavers to work on to help them to prepare for school. This week the activity is to practise getting changed out of their clothes and into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt independently and placing the clothes that they have taken off into a neat pile.

26/6/2020 - Making and playing skittles - Using the plastic bottles that you have been saving, make a set of skittles. Look at the pictures for ideas of how you could decorate them. Play a game with your family, Count how many skittles each person knocks down. Older children could write the names of the people playing and then record their score next to their name. Who knocked down the most? Who knocked down the least?

25/6/2020 - Daily Task (older children) - Look at the pictures of beach drawings of search for pictures online and talk about what you might see at the beach. If your child has been to the beach before perhaps remind them by showing them a photo. Encourage your child to draw of paint teh background first e.g. blue sea and yellow sand and then to add as much detail as possible onto it. We would love to see photos of their finished artwork on Tapestry.

24/6/2020 - Daily Task (older children) - 'I spy' game - Place a selection of objects starting with different letter sounds on the floor e.g. pen, spoon, bottle, tin, cup, hat etc. Explain that you're going to say the sound the an object begins with and they have to find the correct object. When they are confident doing this you could move on to playing 'I spy' with objects around the room.


24/6/2020 - Daily Task (nurture children) - Putting on lids - Place a selection of different bottles and containers with their lids off on the floor in front of your child and encourage them to match the correct lids to the different containers and try putting the lids back on them.

23/6/2020 - Daily Task (nurture children) - Exploring ice - Take the containers out of the freezer and empty the ice blocks containing the small toys into a large bowl or onto a tray. Encourage your child to explore the ice and to try and get the toys out. Perhaps provide them with sticks or spoons to poke at the ice and see what else they do to try and release the toys. We would love to see photos on Tapestry of your child exploring the ice.

22/6/2020 - Daily Task (older children) - Sorting summer and winter clothes - Place a selection of seasonal clothing in a pile. Make sure that you have a selection of summer clothing e.g. cap, swimming costume, shorts, sandals, short-sleeved top etc. and a selection of winter clothing e.g. scarf, woolly hat, gloves, warm coat, jumper, thick socks etc. Explain to your child that they have to sort out the clothing into two piles, one pile for clothes that they would wear in the summer and one for winter clothing. Talk about what the weather is like in summer and winter as they sort the clothing.

22/6/2020 - Preparation for tomorrow (nurture children) - Today please find some small toys that you can put in containers of water to put into the freezer overnight to freeze for the daily task tomorrow. Encourage your child to help you to do this. If you like then you could add a few drops of colouring to the water before you freeze it.


22/6/2020 - Daily Task (nurture children) - Draw different coloured blocks along the side of a piece of paper or card and ask children to place their toys next to the matching colour. When they have sorted the toys count together how many there are of each colour.

17/6/2020 - Threading to make a necklace or bracelet - Thread pasta tubes or cut up pieces of straw to thread onto string or ribbon to make a bracelet. If you have some beads you could also use those. Count how many pieces of pasta, straw or beads you have got on your necklace. Ask them to draw the shape that they think it is on a piece of paper and then look at it together. What is the shape called? How many corners and edges does it have? Repeat with different shapes.

10/6/2020 - Daily Task (nurture children) - Hide and Seek toys - Hide a toy (perhaps a soft toy animal) whilst your child is not looking and then encourage them to find it. When they have found it encourage them to say where it is e.g. "Teddy is on the shelf" or "Teddy is under the cushion." Keep playing and hiding the toy in different places.

5/6/2020 - Daily Task (older children) - Shadow drawing - Place a piece of paper in a sunny/light spot (outdoors if dry or perhaps a windowsill inside) and place an object on the paper or close to it so that the object casts a shadow across the paper. Encourage your child to draw around the shadow. We would love to see photos of your shadow drawings on Tapestry.

4/6/2020 - Daily Task (nurture children) - Trying a new food - Encourage your child to try a new food today and discuss the taste. Introduce and encourage words to describe the food e.g. soft, hard, sweet, sour, crunchy, chewy etc. Did they like the new food?


4/6/2020 - Daily Task (older children) - Favourite vegetable survey - Ask your child to name some different vegetables and write them down in a list. Perhaps they could draw a picture of the vegetable next to each word. Encourage your child to ask people which vegetable is their favourite and make a mark next to that vegetable on their paper. They could do this in person with members of the household or maybe phone/video call other family members to ask them. At the end ask them to count how many people liked each vegetable. Which was the most/least popular? If you have access to a printer they could complete the 'Favourite Fruit Survey' too (or make another of their own).

3/6/2020 - Daily Task - Memory game - Select a number of everyday objects and pace then on a tray. Allow the child to look at the objects and name them together. Cover the tray with a towel and remove an object without your child looking. Lift the towel off and ask them what's missing. Add more objects as they become confident and perhaps remove two items at a time.

2/6/2020 - Daily Task - Prepare jelly for some sensory play. Show your child how the jelly melts in the hot water and encourage them to describe what is happening. Pour the jelly into moulds and allow it to set. When it is set, empty it out and let your child explore it with their hands. Encourage them to describe how the jelly feels.

28/5/2020 - Daily Task - Painting with water - You will need a bowl or bucket of water and a paintbrush (or any kind of soft brush) Use the brush to 'paint' the fence, shed or outside of your home with water. If you want to, you can add bubbles or food colouring to the water. Nurture children - how high can you stretch up with the brush? Older children - can you write your name or some numbers?

27/5/2020 - Daily Task (older children) - Sports Challenge - How many different sports can you think of? Ask an adult to write down your ideas on a piece of paper and then you can draw some sport pictures around their writing to make a poster. Perhaps google some of the different sports with an adult to find out more about them.

27/5/2020 - Daily Task (nurture children) - Jumping - Make a line on the ground, perhaps outside with chalk or with string or masking tape. encourage your child to stand with their toes touching the line and jump as far as they can. Place a marker where they jumped to and encourage them to try and jump even further each time.


26/5/2020 - Daily Task - Shape Hunt - Draw four different shapes on separate pieces of paper or use plastic/foam shapes if you have them. Ask your child to find as many items that they can that are the shapes that you have draw and place them next to the correct shape. How many of each shape can they find? Encourage them to talk about the shape of different objects around the home and to use the shape names correctly.

25/5/2020 - Daily Task (older children) - 7-minute workout - Choose and animal from the picture and do the action for 45 seconds (ask a grown up to time you) and then rest for 15 seconds before choosing another animal action to do for 45 seconds. Continue until you have done all seven animal actions - frog jumps, bear walk, gorilla shuffle, starfish jumps, cheetah run, crab crawl and elephant stomps. Perhaps you could get members of your family to join in with your workout!

25/5/2020 - Daily Task (nurture children) - Minibeast Movements - Today encourage your child to move in different ways, like different minibeasts e.g. lying on the ground and wriggling like a worm, flapping their arms like a butterfly flutters its wings, putting their hands on the floor and scuttling about like a spider or doing some giant leaps like a cricket. Perhaps google pictures of the different minibeasts and look at them with your child before they do each movement.

22/5/2020 - Daily Task (nurture children) - Making a snack/lunch. Today encourage your child to help you to make a snack or lunch. Perhaps they could try buttering a cracker or chopping up some fruit with a child's knife.

21/5/2020 - Daily Task (nurture children) - Counting Fingers - Draw around your child's hand and then look at it together. Encourage them to count their fingers on their actual hand and the outline that you have drawn. They can then colour in their hand picture. 20/5/2020 - Daily Task - Don't Touch the Lava! - Place a series of mats (you could also use cushions, paper or pieces of fabric) randomly on the floor. Children start off at one side of the room and have to get across it using the mats, they can't touch the floor as it is 'lava.'

19/5/2020 - Daily Task (older children) - Peg numbers and counting - Collect some leaves whilst out on a walk. Write numbers 1 to 5 on them (ask a grown up for help if you need it). Then, use clothes pegs and peg the correct number to each leaf. If you haven't got any leaves then you could write the numbers on pieces of paper and then attach your pegs to them.

19/5/2020 - Daily Task (nurture children) - Using pegs - Give your child some pegs and a piece of cardboard (perhaps an empty box). Encourage them to try to attach the pegs to the cardboard - you may need to model how to squeeze the pegs open.


18/5/2020 - Daily Task - Stick Potato Hedgehogs - You will need a potato that has been cut in half and some sticks/twigs or cocktail sticks. Push the sticks into your potato to create some prickles and then draw on two eyes and a snuffly snout. We would love to see photos of your hedgehog on Tapestry.

18/5/2020 - Transition Activity - Each week we are suggesting an activity for our school leavers to work on to help them to prepare for school. This week the activity is pouring a drink from a jug into a cup independently.


18/5/2020 - Wonderful Word of the Week - This week our 'Wonderful Word of the Week' is Eid Mubarak which is an Arabic term meaning Happy Eid. Practise saying the phrase with your child and explain to them that it is used to wish Muslims a happy Eid festival.

15/5/2020 - Daily Task - Making a bird nest - Collect some sticks or use pasta, leaves or another suitable material. Look at the photos for inspiration. Can you arrange your materials to make a bird nest and then put it outside somewhere for the birds to enjoy?

11/5/2020 - Daily Task (older children) - Caterpillar Counting - Write the numbers 1 o 5 down the side of a piece of paper (ask an adult for help if you need it) and then draw a smiley caterpillar face next to each number. Draw or finger paint the correct number of circles next to each caterpillar head to complete the caterpillars. Miss Nuttall has done one to show you. When you have done numbers 1 to 5 perhaps you could try numbers 6 to 10 too.

After trying all of the objects in the water, encourage your child to sort the objects into two groups - those that floated and those that sunk.
